Mt Batulao

on the way to the drive sites of batangas. The resort town of Tagaytay is a common bolthole from the madness of Manilla for foreigners and local alike. Staggling along the ridge skrits the Taal Caldera, it offers sweeping views and cool climbs.Yet often overlook as a superb day hike on Mt batulao few kilometres away that mixes wonderful 360 views with just the right amount of chellenge. A cool climb indeed.

Mt Batulao is highly recommended as a mountain climbing destination for dayhikers.The mountain lies between Balayan and nasugbu town of batangas. The usually jump off point is barangay at the foot of the mountain accessible through Avercrest Golf and country club. Mt Batulao is strickly a hiking/treckking destination.Visitors must be in proper mountain climbing get up and with appropriate provisions and equipment depending on their planned activites and length of stay.For those just want to reach a summit one day is enough. An early morning jump is recommened not before than 10 A.M. Mt Batulao is bare (i.e.no trees)in most areas so protection from the sun is recommened.For those who wish to experience mountain climbing overnight camping is allowded at destignated camping area.There are two routes to the summit. If the new route is exclusive used both for ascent and decent no special climb equipment i.e.ropes is necessary. If the old route is used some ropes must be needed as a safety measure especially if u climb party included newbies.For both the activies in Mt Batulao whether watch out is necessary.

      

Cordillera Central

Cordillera central is one of top hill staions of the world. it is a massive mountain range situated in the northern central part  of  the Island of Luzon in the philippines.Gran Cordillera is highest and largest mountain range of the philippines.It comprises about 1/6 of the whole Luzon island with the total area of 18300 km.The Philippines archipelago 7100 islands is situated between the south china Sea to the west and pacific ocean in the east Its main island is Luzon(on which the manila is situated), mindanao and palawan. Total surface is 301,000 km.

The population of cordillera is about 1.1 million 2% of total Philippine population.The cordillera is one of the richest regions in term of natural resources.11% of the total area is agricultural rice fields and pasture lands.60% of the country's temperate vegetables produced in the area.It is not convenient to reach( it is about 8 to 10 hours overnight by bus from manila). The highlight of the region-be they emerald green terraces, secret waterfalls and the villages, of just damn fine trekking. Visit Banaue,Batad and Hapao and be sure to bring a camera


         

Banaue Rice terraces

The most popular place on Cordillera central is Banaue.Banaue is a town on the cordillera mountain range in the north of the island of Luzon. It is mainly visited for its stunning rice terraces which is a UNESCO world Hertiage Site.The Banaue rice terraces are 2000 years old terraces that are covered into the mountains of lfugao in the philippines by the ancestors of the indigenous people.The rice terraces are commonly referred by the filipinous "Eighth wonder of the world" is commonly thought that terraces are built with the minimal equipment, largely by hand.The terraces are located approximately 1500 meters above sea level and covered 10,360  square kilometres of mountainside. They are fed by ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces. it is said that if the steps are put end to end it would encircle half of the globe.

Another triving economy in Banaue rice terrace is tourism. The tourism industry has developed a number of activities for visitors which may include sight seeing of the terraces and visits to the tribes of the foot of the terraces.A mumbaki (a traditional lfugao witch doctor) is recommened to visitors. These doctors can perform spiritual healing rituals.
